The Tennessee Department of Veterans Services (TDVS) announced that they have received notice from the National Cemetery Administration of the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs and that it has qualified for a grant opportunity that will fund the development and construction of the Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery in White County, TN. The TDVS Commissioner, Tommy Baker, thanked the Upper Cumberland State Veterans Cemetery Association (UCSVCA) for their tireless advocacy and collaboration in making this project a reality.
The Next Meeting – is scheduled for a TBD Friday, in January 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Veterans Memorial Building, Meeting Hall, 90 E. Spring St., in Cookeville, TN.
The UCSVCA the TDVS will finalize plans for needed amenities for the future Veteran’s Cemetery. The UCSVCA will also plan future fund-raising efforts to provide for the required amenities for the Veterans Cemetery.
The Tennessee Governor’s Office and key legislators have already secured $750,000 in the 2019-2020 State Budget to support the architecture and engineering costs associated our federal NCA Grant to build a state veterans cemetery in the Upper Cumberland. This is in addition to $600,000 used to purchase of the property for the state veteran’s cemetery.
The UCSVCA would like to thank the citizens of the Upper Cumberland for their numerous generous donations to the cemetery project to bring us to this point and to consider us for future giving to complete this worthy project. Also, great thanks to the county governments of Clay, DeKalb, Fentress, Jackson, Macon, Putnam, Smith, and White counties for fulfilling their pledges to donate $10 per veteran to the UCSVCA for the purchase of land and improvements for a state veterans cemetery in the Upper Cumberland and to Warren County for their continued donations to the UCSVCA.
The UCSVCA is an approved 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization by the Internal Revenue Service.
UCSVCA Officers and Members continue to brief community leaders and organizations and provide interviews to spread the word on the future Veterans Cemetery in the Upper Cumberland and the work the UCSVCA is doing.
